Dear Esther Coming to PS4, Xbox One Next Month

Dear Esther is a game that everyone should experience. It pretty much pioneered the “walking simulator” genre, and is the spiritual progenitor of developer The Chinese Room’s second title, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture . If you enjoyed the latter game on PS4, and you’re up for another beautiful, slow-going, powerful narrative, Dear Esther absolutely cannot be overlooked. Originally released (in its final form) in 2012, Dear Esther has gone on to enchant and bewilder fans all over the world, accumulating five BAFTA games award nominations.

The Chinese Room just dropped a release date trailer for Dear Esther: Landmark Edition , which is headed to PS4 and Xbox One on September 20. The Landmark Edition is a faithful port of the PC version and will look and play the same. The Chinese Room did mention that they took care of a few bugs, and Landmark Edition will also feature new trophies, achievements, and a Director’s Commentary mode (which I can’t wait for). PC players haven’t been forgotten, either. Dear Esther: Landmark Edition will be headed to PC in a few months, and anyone who previously purchased Dear Esther will receive the bonus content for free.
