DestinyCon’s Charity Stream Raises $500,000

DestinyCon’s Charity Stream Raises $500,000

Hearing stories about gamers doing good is always uplifting, right? The folks who love Destiny have done something pretty amazing. The Destiny Community Convention is August 27 in Tampa, Florida, and it’s an event where all profits go to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Ahead of Destiny Con, a charity stream livestream has already raised a substantial amount.

42 Destiny players had been livestreaming via Twitch . In a one week period, over $500,000 was raised . At the moment, Forbes is reporting the sum as the largest St. Jude’s donation from a gaming charity event. And that’s even before the actual event itself, where profits from ticket and merchandise sales will also be donated.

People in Tampa who are just hearing about Destiny Con may have some trouble getting in, unfortunately. Gothalion, one of the event’s hosts, says there will only be about 1,000 tickets sold at the door . Last year, about 1,000 people attended the inaugural event, and organizers are expecting between three and four times that number this year. It sure seems like Destiny has built a rather charitable and dedicated community!
