Halo Online Isn’t Happening

Halo Online Isn’t Happening

Forget about Halo Online . Unless you didn’t know it existed. Then pretend I didn’t just tell you about the free-to-play, online version of Halo. Why? After an alpha and a beta, the overseas experiment is over. Saber Interactive, the developer, has said it’s dead.

Back in March 2015, Microsoft and 343 Industries announced it would be working with Saber Interactive and Innova Systems to release Halo Online in Russia. It would be a free-to-play shooter based on Halo 3’ s multiplayer, allowing between four and sixteen players to fight on maps in a area set after Halo 3 . Both closed alphas and betas were held, but it isn’t going any further.

While this is unfortunate news, perhaps there’s no real point in mourning Halo Online . It was based on Halo 3’ s engine and experiences, and we’re up to Halo 5 now. It also was only available in Russia, so it isn’t like the whole world had something and lost it. It was only available in very preliminary forms, so at least we aren’t losing something everyone was invested in.
