Final Fantasy XV’s Open World Eventually Becomes More Linear

Final Fantasy XV’s Open World Eventually Becomes More Linear

Hajime Tabata, Final Fantasy XV’ s director, spoke with Famitsu about what people can expect from the adventure. The 15 chapter game is apparently about 40-50 hours long and isn’t always as open as the initial demos have led us to expect. To be more specific, Tabata says it has open-world and linear elements, with players options becoming more limited as the game goes on.

In part of the Final Fantasy XV interview translated by Siliconera , Tabata said, “The first half keeps going as an open world, but the story in the second half is led by a linear path.” He also mentions there is a main route for the second half, which suggests there could be other things to enjoy when you reach that segment.

It’s funny, but Final Fantasy XV almost sounds a bit like a reversed Final Fantasy XIII. If you’ll recall, that was a game that started out very linear, before opening up in the second half. Now, we’re hearing Final Fantasy XV starts out open, before narrowing its scope. Let’s hope it doesn’t get too limited.
