PS4 Slim Will Have 5GHz Wifi Option

The PlayStation 4 Slim has been subject to the strangest leak-streak of the year. How some random shmoe ended up getting his hands on this thing, new and in-box like he picked it up from a Target, is beyond me. Our sneaky friend goes by the handle “shortman82” on Twitter, and he’s recently released a few more screen shots upon request. The images above show in both the console manual and options that the PS4 Slim will be capable of connecting to a 5GHz wifi signal.

This isn’t the most exciting feature, but it is extremely welcome news for those of you who own a dual-band router. A 5GHz signal is (obviously) faster and more stable than a 2.4GHz signal. It’s safe to assume that, when connected to the higher frequency band, you should see faster download speeds and better connections for online multiplayer.

Just keep in mind that 2.4GHz is actually more reliable at greater distances, and the 5GHz signal doesn’t penetrate through solids as well. In other words, if you’re a few rooms away from your router on the other side of the house, you may want to stick with the 2.4GHz frequency. The more you know!
