Fallout 4, Skyrim Mods Canceled for PS4

Fallout 4, Skyrim Mods Canceled for PS4

You can stop holding your breath now, everyone: I’ve got some bad news. It seems like, after several weeks of confusion and radio silence, Bethesda has confirmed that mod support for Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim remaster won’t be possible on PS4. In a statement (via The Verge ), Bethesda had this to say: “After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.”

This one is clearly on Sony, and exactly why they wouldn’t approve mods in the same capacity that Microsoft was willing to is unknown. Microsoft has posted a couple not-so-subtle tweets since the news broke. Larry Hryb took a swipe at Sony saying, “ICYMI: Xbox One owners have been enjoying Fallout 4 mods since May.” Shortly after it was revealed that the PS4 Pro didn’t support 4K Blu-Ray discs, the Xbox UK Twitter account tweeted out a list of Xbox One S features which included pretty much everything the PS4 Pro was advertised to do, with the addition of 4K Blu-Ray. Today, they retweeted the post, adding “Mod support, Backward Compatibility, Fastest, most reliable gaming network” to the list. Shots fired!
