ReCore Ushers in Microsoft’s Play Anywhere Program

ReCore Ushers in Microsoft’s Play Anywhere Program

ReCore has finally arrived, and it’s either really awesome or totally lacking, depending on who you ask. Your feelings about Inafune’s latest aside, ReCore is special because it’s the first game released as part of Microsoft’s new Play Anywhere program. When you purchase a digital copy of ReCore on either Xbox One or Windows 10, you unlock the game on both platforms. Progress and achievements are shared across platforms as well.

The introduction of Play Anywhere games and the Universal Windows Platform apps represents a company-wide effort to unify the Windows and Xbox experiences into a cohesive whole. If ReCore isn’t your bag, there are plenty of Play Anywhere titles slated to hit Xbox One and Windows 10 in the near future, including Forza Horizon 3 on September 27 and Gears of War 4 next month.

All of this, combined with the fact that Microsoft expressed a willingness to start releasing more games on Steam, points to a strong, unified library of media across consoles and PC for Xbox gamers. Microsoft is definitely laying some strong foundations and generating good will leading up to the launch of Project Scorpio next year, and I think it’s a great direction for them.
