Shuhei Yoshida Understands Fan Criticism of No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky went through a bit of a disastrous launch. The game did sell extremely well, but soon after launch fans were up in arms over what they perceived to be a long string of broken promises. This has led to innumerable refund requests and outspoken criticism of the game and its developer Hello Games. Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida caught up with Eurogamer at the Tokyo Game Show and weighed in on the issue.

Yoshida stated that he played the game before and after launch, and really enjoyed his time with it. He can see where fans are coming from, though. “I understand some of the criticisms especially Sean Murray is getting,” he said, “because he sounded like he was promising more features in the game from day one.” Yoshida thinks that Hello Games could have used a little outside help marketing the game. “It wasn’t a great PR strategy, because he didn’t have a PR person helping him, and in the end he is an indie developer.”

Yoshida did end on a positive note, explaining that more features and patches are on the way. We can only assume that the team at Hello Games is still hard at work, because we haven’t seen a single tweet from Sean Murray in 21 days now. We wish them a lot of luck.
