Fan Demand Could Bring Dragon Quest X to the West

Fan Demand Could Bring Dragon Quest X to the West

There’s a bit of a Dragon Quest resurgence outside of Japan. Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest VII have recently been released, older titles keep showing up on mobile devices, and Dragon Quest Builders and Dragon Quest VIII are on the way. Now, there’s a suggestion that the Dragon Quest X MMORPG has a chance of finding its way to the west. That is, if people show they really want it.

This all came up at a PAX West 2016 panel. Square Enix’s Noriyoshi Fujimoto, who’s worked on Dragon Quest VI: Chapters of the Chosen, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation, and Dragon Quest VII:: Journey of the Cursed King , was asked about a Dragon Quest X localization. While he emphasized how difficult such a project would be, he also suggested that the same sort of fan support that led to the Dragon Quest VII could sway the company.

Dragon Quest X is a MMORPG that was first released in Japan in August 2012. While it first appeared on the Wii, it’s also found its way to the Wii U, PC, 3DS, and Android devices. PlayStation 4 and NX versions are even in development. You need to pay a monthly fee to play. Maybe, if we’re are polite about requesting it, we’ll see the PlayStation 4 and NX versions here?
