Battleborn Is Getting Some Kind of Free Trial

Battleborn Is Getting Some Kind of Free Trial

Weird rumors were swirling all around Battleborn yesterday. First, Kotaku said a source told them 2K Games and Gearbox were going to make it a free-to-play game. Which would make sense, since it flopped pretty hard. Except Randy Pitchford, Gearbox’s CEO, stepped up on Twitter to better explain what’s really happening.

Pitchford first called the Battleborn free-to-play rumor reckless and said it was false. Then, he said that there will be a free trial version planned. It isn’t a timed demo, but is instead something that will allow users to try the game, then purchase DLC or the full version of the game. It’s apparently going to be announced in a few months.

Kotaku’s report suggests this free version of Battleborn would have free multiplayer and a few free heroes, but would require people to pay for story missions, extra characters, and DLC. Think of it as something like League of Legends or maybe Heroes of the Storm . I think a free-to-play version would be a better idea, but maybe this trial would still be of some help?
