Nintendo Switch Powered by Nvidia Tegra

Nintendo Switch Powered by Nvidia Tegra

A Nintendo console powered by Nvidia… I never thought I’d see the day. But here we are, and now that the Switch has been revealed, Nvidia has come forward with its own press release revealing that the Switch is indeed powered by a custom Tegra chip. “Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.” The words “high-efficiency” and “world’s top performing” lead me to believe that this is a new chip based on the Pascal architecture, but that wasn’t stated outright.

Nvidia is going all in on the software side of things as well, with its tech integrated into every facet of the device’s operation – including the OS. “We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.”

We should learn more very soon. A spec dump is likely right around the corner, and I can’t wait to hear more about the guts that power the Switch. Stay tuned to CheatCC for all of the latest Nintendo Switch news.
