Nintendo Switch Will Support Unreal Engine 4

Nintendo Switch Will Support Unreal Engine 4

Following the short-but-sweet reveal of Nintendo’s next home console, the Nintendo Switch, we’ve been pummeled by a variety of developers and publishers expressing their support. While it was comforting to see that powerhouses like Bethesda, Activision, EA, and Epic Games would be supporting the Switch, it still remains to be seen how that support will take shape. While seeing Skyrim on the Switch was comfort to some, others are using that as proof that only older and less graphically demanding games will be supported by Nintendo’s new portable console. How powerful can it really be?

Well we know it’s at least powerful enough to support games made in Unreal Engine 4. The following tweet appeared yesterday afternoon from Unreal Engine’s official Twitter page: “We’re thrilled to partner with Nintendo to help Unreal Engine 4 developers bring their games to Nintendo Switch!” That bodes well for the Switch’s third-party support, and should alleviate any fears that the console won’t be powerful enough to run all of the same current-gen games coming out on Xbox One and PS4.
