Nintendo Expects 2M Switch Sales Before End of March

Nintendo Expects 2M Switch Sales Before End of March

Late last night Nintendo held its quarterly financial briefing, and the reports have now been translated. Overall things are looking pretty bad. Wii U sales are awful, obviously, and even 3DS sales are down compared to last year. Nintendo didn’t reveal any new information about its upcoming console, the Switch, but Kimishima did seem confident that the Switch would enjoy a relatively successful launch period.

Nintendo is expecting to ship two million units by the end of the fiscal year. The end of the fiscal year, by the way, is in March. We know the Switch is due to launch in March, but we don’t have an official release date yet. Even if it’s set to launch toward the beginning of the month, two million units in a matter of weeks isn’t bad. We’re not talking PS4 numbers, here, but I don’t think Nintendo ever projected to beat out the fastest-selling console of all time.

It was also mentioned that Nintendo would not be selling the Switch at a loss. This will be important to keep in mind for those of you who are demanding that Nintendo sell it for $250 or less. Kimishima said that they were listening to consumers, but they do intend to make a profit here (imagine that). It was also said that Nintendo wants consumers to get their hands on the Switch before launch, which communicates confidence. Let’s keep our hopes up.
