Uwe Boll Is Getting Out of the Movie Business

Do you know Uwe Boll? There’s a good chance you do. He’s a filmmaker who’s been involved with some of the worst movie adaptions of video games ever. Well, he may soon fade from your memory for good, because he’s getting out of the business that made him famous. He’s retiring.

When talking to Metro News , Boll said, “You don’t make any money anymore on movies because the DVD and Blu-ray market worldwide has dropped 80 percent in the last three years. That is the real reason; I just cannot afford to make movies.” This comes after his No Mercy Kickstarter, which would have funded the third Rampage movie, failed. He’s tired of not making a profit and says he doesn’t want to keep going forward only working on films with lower budgets.

Since Boll’s not going to be making any more films, let’s take a moment to remember all the video game-inspired disasters he helped create. It all started with House of the Dead back in 2003, which has a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes . In the years after that, he did Alone in the Dark ( 1% ), Alone in the Dark II ( 11% ). BloodRayne ( 4% ), BloodRayne: Deliverance ( 13% ), BloodRayne: The Third Reich ( 12% ), Postal ( 8% ), Far Cry ( 12% ), and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale ( 4% ). That’s quite a legacy.
