Final Fantasy XV DLC and Online Multiplayer Detailed

Final Fantasy XV has finally gone gold. With its November 29 release set in stone, Square Enix took to the stage at the Paris Games Week expo to make some announcements about the game’s post-launch DLC. We were already aware that it would feature a Season Pass priced at $25, but we know now a little more about what that will include. The development team is planning three episodes, each featuring one of Noctis’ closest allies as a playable character, that take place in the middle of Final Fantasy XV ‘s story. In addition, an online mode called “Comrades” is slated for release after the story episodes. This cooperative multiplayer mode places four players in control of Noctis, Ignis, Gladiolus, and Prompto, as they… fight bad guys, presumably? Details are still light at this time.

A new trailer, dubbed “Omen,” also debuted at the event. More a CG short film than a traditional trailer, this darkly beautiful teaser serves as yet another prelude to Final Fantasy XV proper. Its official preamble is as follows:

“A rapidly shifting world, enemies that appear endlessly, gradual loss of abilities… And a madness that brings harm to the beloved fiancée. This short movie, which can only be described as a nightmare for the struggling Noctis, is a collaboration between FINAL FANTASY XV and Digic Pictures, the world renown [ sic ] 3D animation studio that also took part in the creation of KINGSGLAIVE FINAL FANTASY XV.”

I don’t know about you, but I’ve officially seen enough pre-release material for this game. Only one question remains on my mind: will Final Fantasy XV itself end up a nightmare or a dream come true? My optimism compels me to bet on the latter, but we’ll know for certain when the game releases in a month’s time.
