Funny, I was just talking about EVE Online the other day , and now it’s making headlines again with the release of EVE Online: Acension . This expansion, officially released today, makes the game fully free-to-play. Its headline feature is the introduction of “clone states,” which categorizes player characters into one of two archetypes. Omega clones are the type of characters that have existed in the game up to this point, while alpha clones are streamlined characters with predefined skill sets that correspond to their in-game races. Alpha clones are free to all players, regardless of whether they possess a subscription to EVE Online .
The expansion also introduces Inception, a story-centric new mode created to introduce new players to the world of EVE Online . It is fully voice-acted and presents a number of tutorials as part of its exciting new narrative. Other additions include new ships, a fitting simulator to aid in the optimization of modules, a new character sheet, NPC mining fleets, and more.
