Mei Ice Wall Exploit Users Are Being Punished

Over the winter holidays, Overwatch players discovered an exploit. People playing as Mei in Last Team Standing were able to use her ice wall to vault out of Ecopoint: Antarctica, but fire down on people still in it. It was quite a way to cheat and took a bit of fun out of the game. And now, Blizzard is coming after people who were using it.

First, here’s an Overwatch video showing how the Mei exploit worked.

Blizzard put out an Overwatch hotfix to fix the Mei exploit yesterday. It took so long to repair because the company couldn’t find the exact bug causing it for a while. Now that things have been righted, Jeff Kaplan , the game director, said, “We will be taking action against those who abused this exploit. Overwatch is a PvP experience so that means exploiting game mechanics like this comes at a cost to those you are competing against. We take aggressive action against people who abuse game mechanics, hack or cheat. This case is no different.” Since Blizzard has a zero tolerance policy, that means people are banned on the first offense.

I hope none of you used Mei’s ice wall to cause trouble! I didn’t notice too much of it over the holidays. I was playing quite a bit to earn some of the Winter Wonderland Loot Box skins, and everyone seemed to be on the up-and-up. Take this action as a warning though! Cheating never pays in Overwatch !
