PlayStation Live Is Dying

PlayStation Live Is Dying

Did you know your PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 had an app that would let you watch live events on your consoles? Had is the operative word here. The Live Events Viewer that used to let people watch live and on-demand free and paid events is being discontinued. Sony has announced it’ll kill the application on January 10.

There’s an upside for PlayStation 4 owners. While they won’t have a Live Events Viewer where everything is easy and in one place, they can still see live events. You’ll be able to purchase them from the PlayStation Store on-demand. When something is about to air, head to the store and pay to begin watching it.

It feels like this was inevitable. The PlayStation Store itself has become a bigger and bigger media hub. The PlayStation 3 is pretty much defunct. It’s probably easier for Sony to just offer live events directly through the store rather than continually maintain and update a Live Events Viewer.
