The Retron 5’s repertoire is expanding! Right now, the console is pretty comprehensive. It plays NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. From all regions, by the way. If you have one, you’re covered. But now, thanks to a newly announced 3-in-1 adapter, two more Sega systems can be enjoyed.
The Retron 5 3-in-1 adapter lets you play Game Gear and Sega Master System games. It supports the handheld’s cartridges and the consoles’ cartridges and cards. You plug it into the Genesis slot and are good to go. Well, as long as your Retron 5’s firmware is at version 2.53039 or higher. That update should be out in the first quarter of 2017.
Here’s my issue with this. I have a Retron 5. It works fine. But, I know I’m a lucky one. There are a lot of people who have issues with this all-in-one console. There are definite connector issues. Maybe, instead of releasing an adapter to expand its capabilities, Hyperkin should fix the system’s inherent issues?
