Last week’s Nintendo Switch reveal brought us a whole lot of concrete information about the system, but one of the biggest bombshells was the news that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be a launch title. The following day, a Nintendo Treehouse stream provided an extensive look at several Switch games, and it was during the Zelda segment that fans discovered a fascinating easter egg.
During the stream, the hosts showed off the map that’s set to be included in the Special Edition of Breath of the Wild. Pausing the stream revealed that the map, covered in Sheikah script, actually contained a secret message once translated, first to Japanese and then to English. It reads:
“Hylians pass stories of a destined time long past where multiple races lived and worked together in harmony. The Sheikah Tribe’s blue aura breathed through the land and this mutual prosperity continued until a cataclysmic disaster stuck. The Hero and the Princess attempted to seal the terror which became known as the Calamity Ganon. Divine beasts awoke from four directions and deployed a mechanical army which made the King and his people fearful. They fractured Ganon’s power and sealed him but the Sheikah were banished from the land ever since.”
