You may not remember Toukiden ; this PlayStation Vita alternative to Monster Hunter featured similar gameplay with a Japanese mythological theme. An updated port called Toukiden Kiwami later released for PlayStation 4 and PC, and now a true sequel, Toukiden 2 , is finally set to arrive this March. It will be playable on PS4, Vita, and PC.
As a custom character known as the Slayer, you’ll fight hordes of oni with a team of AI companions or other players. This entry features a new mechanic called the Demon Hand, which allows you to tether yourself to large foes and either launch yourself into the air or slam your foe into the ground. You can even use it to traverse the game’s environments. And as if the Monster Hunter parallels weren’t obvious enough, you can send robotic partners called Machina out on expeditions to retrieve useful crafting materials.
Pre-ordering Toukiden 2 ahead of its March 21 release will net you a Tenko Costume armor and a set of Mitama to augment your abilities. For a taste of the oni-slaying action, you need only watch the trailer below:
