People dying over video games is a thing that has occupied urban legends for years, but here we are with a story unfolding in real time. A man in Russia has been sentenced to nine years in prison after stabbing his friend to death during a heated argument over… which graphics card company is better.
The incident itself took place almost a year ago, in September 2016. Two friends were hanging out and drinking, when the topic of Nvidia versus AMD came up. Clearly a sore subject, the argument escalated and Aleksander Trofimov, 37, grabbed a knife and stabbed his friend several times.
The following details aren’t pretty. Trofimov buried the body afterwards, and the next day he unearthed it and burned the remains. He was found out and arrested not long after, regardless, and was cooperative with authorities. The nine-year sentencing comes this week after a long stay in local captivity and court proceedings.
