Despite the studio and possibly IP being dead and buried, a Sleeping Dogs movie is coming from the production company behind the Fast and Furious films. Donnie Yen ( Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ) is set to star in the lead role, which seems to reflect the plot of the original game. Which is, in case you missed it, an undercover cop attempting to take on the Triads from the inside out.
China is a huge market for Hollywood films now, and Donnie Yen is a huge Chinese star. Sleeping Dogs may not have been a huge hit here, but it has a really good chance at being successful overseas.
Who knows, perhaps this could lead to a revival for the Sleeping Dogs brand? The game did manage to get a Definitive Edition release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014, two years after the original. Could we see Wei Shen again?
