System Shock 3 Picked Up by Starbreeze

System Shock 3 Picked Up by Starbreeze

Otherside Entertainment’s System Shock 3 now has a publisher in Starbreeze Studios. Today, Starbreeze announced in a press release its partnership with Otherside to the tune of a $12 million investment. The publisher aims to bring the title not only to PC, but to “other platforms.” Let’s hear it for hopeful PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions!

Behind System Shock 3 is storied developer Warren Spector, and with him is a team of people who worked on the first two System Shock games, as well as Thief and Deus Ex . Bo Anderson, Starbreeze CEO, supplied a quote saying, “ System Shock is one of those iconic franchises in the history of games that still gets my blood going and Mr. Spector is one of the founding fathers of the modern action RPG. We’re greatly looking forward to bringing System Shock 3 to players world wide in our collaboration with Otherside Entertainment and Warren Spector’s team. I’ll be first in line to play.”

The press release also contained some interesting financial information. Starbreeze is set to recoup 120% of its investment in System Shock 3 , which includes whatever marketing costs end up being. Once the investment is recouped, the publisher’s share of the revenue drops down to 50%. Also, Otherside Entertainment keeps 100% of the intellectual property rights as they pertain to System Shock 3 . That last part in particular is pretty cool.
