Overwatch Team Has Map Editors on the Brain

Overwatch Team Has Map Editors on the Brain

Overwatch , with all of its new characters and silly events, is gradually opening up to players. Recently, Blizzard launched the ability to create and share customizable game sessions. Now, it has been revealed that the team eventually wants to unleash a map editor to the general public. Unfortunately, the key word there is “eventually.”

In a forum post, Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan had the following to say on the matter: “We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.”

So there you have it. Overwatch will definitely, probably, maybe have a map editor. But it’s kind of a huge undertaking and won’t show up for a while if it indeed happens. In the meantime, we can all sit back and appreciate how incredibly good Mr. Kaplan is at using PR-friendly language on a message board. Seriously, he’s good.
