When Ditto was added to Pokemon Go , it added an exciting new element to the game. Any relatively common Pokemon a player caught could end up being the little puddle of Poke-goo in disguise. Now, with a recent update, Ditto has transformed from a lovable gloop to a massive, dastardly troll.
See, shiny Pokemon were recently added to Pokemon Go . For the uninformed, in the normal Pokemon games, “shiny” means that there is a random chance of a Pokemon being a different color than normal. It sounds silly, but the chance of encountering a shiny Pokemon is so ridiculously low that people can go through several games over several years without ever encountering one. I would know.
Now, shiny Magikarp are in Pokemon Go and, as discovered by an unfortunate Reddit player, they can also be normal Dittos in disguise. That means that after, say, a shiny Magikarp appears and delivers unto you the hope of a powerful, rare, red Gyarados in the future, it can shatter your dreams right in front of you as its yellow scales shift into a purple glob of disappointment.
As devastating as this is to anyone it happens to, I personally find it hilarious. One of the most sought-after Pokemon in history is now an unstoppable force of sadness and destruction.
