Call of Duty Movie Universe Coming from Activision

Call of Duty Movie Universe Coming from Activision

Citing the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe as a blueprint, Activision is getting ready to launch a Call of Duty film franchise. Speaking to the Guardian, the co-presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios spilled the beans on plans for a multi-movie, expanded universe franchise for the long-running shooter series. Plans for years of content are already mapped out, with features based on the different style and tone variations from the Black Ops to the Modern Warfare series and everything in-between.

Activision Blizzard is also considering producing a TV series focusing on the earlier, World War II and Vietnam-based stories from Call of Duty past. The rollout of all this Call of Duty content could start in 2018, although nothing appears to be set in stone.

Activision Blizzard will be producing these projects in-house, rather than outsourcing the IP rights to an outside studio. The Warcraft movie was a result of that, which while being a relative financial success was buried critically.
