Don’t Get Your Hopes Up for New Knights of the Old Republic

Don’t Get Your Hopes Up for New Knights of the Old Republic

The rumor mill is churning, thanks to Liam Robertson and his Unseen64 podcast. Robertson is known for having a lot of contacts in the industry and making truly fascinating videos about video game projects that never saw the light of day. On a recent podcast, he spoke about how BioWare Austin is pretty much the designated Star Wars section of BioWare, and how it was messing around with a new Knights of the Old Republic project.

Robertson seemed to imply that BioWare Austin is actively working on something, even going so far as to be in the prototyping stage. But in reality, this seems to be outdated information. While said prototyping is likely something that actually happened, it happened in the past and didn’t seem to lead to anything actively in development.

After various news outlets picked the story up, Robertson later clarified on Twitter that, “I don’t even think BioWare Austin is doing KOTOR . All I was really saying was that they prototyped KOTOR something.” Kotaku writer Jason Schreier also supported this, saying “FWIW it’s not false, just old. They were definitely playing around with a KOTOR thing. I just think it’s on ice.”

So there you have it. Robertson’s words, as is something that often happens to people not explicitly employed by big news outlets but still involved in journalism, were twisted and reported on like a game of Telephone gone awry. Always be careful with rumors, folks!
