AbleGamers Opens Disability-friendly Gaming Facility

AbleGamers Opens Disability-friendly Gaming Facility

Video games aren’t always very friendly for potential players with disabilities. AbleGamers, a charity dedicated to closing those gaps, has opened a new facility dedicated to the cause. The AbleGamers Center for Inclusive Play, funded by a grant from the SSB BART Group, opened in Charles Town, West Virginia and is all about reaching out to people in need.

Steve Spohn, COO of AbleGamers said the following in a statement: “Thanks to the gracious support of Level Access, AbleGamers is now better equipped to deliver support to our nation’s community of 33 million gamers with disabilities. Whereas in the past we have been limited to holding finite consultations off-site or online, the new AbleGamers Center for Inclusive Play vastly improves our ability to host in-person appointments, develop content for gamers with disabilities and to offer an impactful resource for the local Charles Town community.”

People who visit AbleGamers Center for Inclusive Play will be able to take advantage of multiple resources. There will be one-on-one consultations, which lets people with issues meet with counselors for free. They can also see and participate in demos for technologies that will help them play games. Most interesting is the capability to get custom peripherals. There’s a 3D printer on-site to create supportive controllers and aids, so people can visit, see what they might need, and then have AbleGamers put together the exact technology they need.
