Arkane Assuages Fears Over Prey’s PC Release

Arkane Assuages Fears Over Prey’s PC Release

Prey is coming soon, and Arkane Austin wants to make sure we aren’t worried about the PC version. The developer’s previous game, Dishonored 2 , came out of the oven half-baked on PC, but that seemed to fuel a more thorough approach to Prey. Raphael Colantonio, president of Arkane, has said that his team “doubled its thoroughness” with Prey compared to Dishonored 2 . Testing on multiple possible PC configurations has been performed to make sure it’s well optimized well. The developer certainly seems pretty confident!

“The real reason why PC games often have problems is because there are so many permutations of hardware. [And] sometimes it’s timing – drivers come out the same time as our game. Something happens that makes it more challenging. At this point[ Prey ] is fully ready, but that’s what we’ve been doing for the past months–a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So we’re pretty confident. You never know. But we’re pretty confident,” said Colantonio in an Gamespot interview.

This is a mouth/money kind of situation, so I don’t doubt we’re looking at a much more stable PC release than we saw with Dishonored 2 . It’s also worth pointing out that Prey runs on CryEngine, rather than Arkane’s in-house Void engine that powered Dishonored 2 . CryEngine has a more PC-oriented history, so that’s likely going to be a huge factor.
