The Gears of War Movie Has a New Writer

Universal Pictures is making efforts to move the Gears of War movie project forward and has hired screenwriter Shan Salerno to help it along. Salerno has had a long career that has covered movies, TV shows, and games. Most recently and notably, he was involved with the movie Armageddon , the Hawaii Five-O TV show reboot, and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands . He is also going to be working with James Cameron on the upcoming Avatar sequels.

The Gears of War movie was announced last year, with Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark producting. Stuber has previously produced Ted , Central Intelligence, and Patriots Day . Clark and his Bluegrass Films production company have been involved with Planet of the Apes and Oblivion .

A Gears of War movie has been in development in some form since the original game was a success, tracing back roughly ten years to a failed deal with New Line Cinema. Universal eventually secured the rights after several failed attempts and multiple writers.
