Overkill’s Walking Dead Game Delayed Again

Overkill’s Walking Dead Game Delayed Again

Overkill, the developer of the quite popular Payday series, has been working on a new, licensed The Walking Dead game. It was delayed once before, and has just been officially delayed again. The game was announced back in 2014 with a 2016 release window. It was delayed to this year, but is now aiming for 2018 debut.

In a press release from Overkill, the company said it needs more time to “expand on its original vision for the game and realize the title’s full potential.” With the previous delay, Overkill’s explanation was it wanted to add more content to the game and also prepare an Asian version for release at the same time as the western one.

Overkill’s parent company, Starbreeze, is hoping to use this game as a springboard into a long-term partnership with Skybound, The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s company. Very little information about it is known, other than it’s being pushed as a co-op action game.

It’s interesting how little about this The Walking Dead game is out there. The delays suggest a case of announcing the game too early in its development cycle. The push behind it seems pretty big though, so I imagine the marketing blitz will go from zero to sixty as soon as it’s ready.
