Is Legend of Zelda Nintendo’s Next Mobile Game?

Is Legend of Zelda Nintendo’s Next Mobile Game?

The Wall Street Journal’s sources have allegedly told the outlet Nintendo’s next move on the mobile market will be a game based on The Legend of Zelda IP. This will be following Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes , and also likely an unannounced Animal Crossing project.

The Animal Crossing mobile title is reportedly set for release sometime before April 2018. This new The Legend of Zelda game will follow that. No specific release window has been set so far. The Pokemon Company is also supposedly working on something new, with its title allegedly card-based.

It’s worth noting that while Fire Emblem Heroes ’ free to play style has been much more profitable than Super Mario Run ’s single-purchase method, Nintendo has gone on record stating the company’s preference is the latter. Could this mean The Legend of Zelda be a one-time purchase?

This is one of those cases of pure rumor and speculation, but it’s worth noting again The Wall Street Journal ran this story first. There’s two angles to this. One, the old Netflix rumor for a The Legend of Zelda series started there and has yet to come to fruition. Two, outlets like The Wall Street Journal typically don’t run rumors like this, so there must be something to its sources. Perhaps we’ll find our answers this year at E3.
