John Cygan has passed away at the age of 63. Cygan was a long-time actor across multiple mediums. The news first broke via The Hollywood Reporter, and was later confirmed by longtime friend and The Shield co-star Michael Chiklis on Twitter. Cygan’s agency confirmed the actor had been fighting a long-term battle with cancer.
Cygan was especially prolific in video games such as Raven's Marvel RPGs, where he voiced Iron Man, several different Star Wars games, some in which he was Dash Rendar, Dead Island, Mafia, and Call of Juarez. Most notably, Cygan lent his voice to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of LIberty’s Solidus Snake. In addition to his role in The Shield and various games, he also had roles in several animated films, including much of Pixar’s filmography and Illumination's Minons, The Lorax, and Despicable Me 2.
His most iconic role, Solidus Snake, wasn't much of a recurring character in the Metal Gear series. However, Solidus and Cygan will probably be remembered forever as the final boss of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.
