Platinum Games Teasing a New IP

Platinum Games Teasing a New IP

At a keynote speech at BitSummit, Platinum Games producer Atsushi Inaba teased attendees by saying that the development studio is working on a new IP. Inaba did not provide any specific details, referring to the project as a “formless” IP. What he did say, however, was interesting. A new director is involved with the game. We don’t have a name or previous experience, but this truly could be something very new from Platinum Games.

Many of Platinum Games’ biggest releases, like Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance , Transformers: Devastation , and Nier: Automata, have been based on established IP. The studio also has a high reputation with its own, unique properties though, like Bayonetta , Vanquish, and The Wonderful 101 . Hopefully, this leads to something good.

Inaba also addressed a concern of many towards Platinum Games, timing. Its release pace, as of late, has led to some games that launched with less than stellar critical receptions. He said it’s doubtful Platinum Games will continue to release games on a yearly basis.
