Blizzard Hoping to Streamline Overwatch Pro Play

Blizzard is really putting their all into the Overwatch community, as far as leagues are concerned. The Overwatch League has existed since November and has been filling up with different teams that include players from all over. Starting very soon, Blizzard is going to start a program that will help lesser known players share their Overwatch skills. Overwatch Contenders is the name of the system and it really is targeted towards those who want to be pro gamers, but just haven’t made it that far yet. The registration for Season Zero of Overwatch Contenders is open today. The matches in the league will start June 3, so the timeline for this is pretty quick!

Teams in Overwatch Contenders will be able to win money during the tournaments, and they will also be in the spotlight for professional teams looking to add players. The Overwatch Contenders league is for the North American and European servers. Season Zero is specifically to find the top eight teams from both of those regions. Prize pools for Season Zero and One of Overwatch Contenders will range from $50,000 to $100,000.

Additionally, Blizzard will be starting an Overwatch Open Division in 2018 that will give players a path to Overwatch Contenders seasons in select regions. It’s never been easier to consider a career in professional video game leagues. If you think you and your team are up to snuff, check out the Overwatch Contenders registration and get yourself started! Otherwise, you have until next year to hone your talents before Overwatch Open Division.
