The new Pokemon -brand mobile game is out, and it’s all about Magikarp. Yes, Magikarp finally has its own game, and… it rules? Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is a super-grindy, super-adorable game about a local league of Magikarp jumping competitions, and it’s up to you to become the best Magikarp master ever.
Oh yes. I’ve spent most of my morning working on Pokemon: Magikarp Jump , and it’s a ton of fun. You catch a Magikarp, then feed it berries and train it with various facilities before launching it into one-on-one competition against opposing Magikarp. The game has a hilarious, self-aware localization, tons of fun Pokemon cameos, and a whole ton of addictive grinding.
Pokemon: Magikarp Jump is available on both iOS and Android and is of course a free to play joint. There are microtransactions, which you can buy to boost your in-game currency as well as get new items faster than you normally can for free. It is typical stuff. If you aren’t bothered by this model of game, it has a ton of polish you’d expect from a Pokemon game, as well as plenty of little trinkets to discover and a great, if not morbid sometimes, sense of humor.
