Thanks to some happenstance Reddit sleuthing, we now know a gold version of Sony’s PS4 Slim is on the way. In fact, it could appear as early as June 9. It also happened to literally show up on a Walmart shelf, although it was quickly removed when a purchase was attempted. The gold PS4 Slim first showed up via Reddit user Sliye, who as a Target employee found a listing for the system at work, along with a June 9 sale date. Subsequently, another user literally found one sitting on a shelf at Walmart .
When the person tried to purchase the unit, Walmart’s system refused to allow the sale. This means it’s placement in the store was a mistake. A picture was taken of the unit before it was put back where it was supposed to be by Walmart staff.
As far as anyone can tell, the gold PS4 Slim is exactly that – a gold PS4 Slim with the usual 1TB hard drive and no other special goodies. Previously, Sony was giving away a limited number of gold original PS4s through a Taco Bell sweepstakes.
