Austin Mayor Supports Women-Only Wonder Woman Showing

Austin Mayor Supports Women-Only Wonder Woman Showing

Austin, Texas has been in the hot seat lately, thanks to a theater in town that is going to host a women-only showing of the new Wonder Woman film. There are those that applaud the Alamo Drafthouse for its marketing brilliance and its celebration of the female superhero. Then there are those that think the event panders to a sexist feminist agenda. Clearly a divisive event, but the theater is going along with it anyway.

It would seem local politicians have even now been looped into the controversy surrounding this theater’s personal decision to host this event. A recent letter to the mayor of Austin has been published on his website. In it a disgruntled male citizen asked that all men boycott Austin, Texas. He went on to shame women claiming that they have an “eagerness to accept the appearance of achievement without actual achievement.” Also apparently women have never invented anything and their achievements (if any) pale in comparison to the accomplishments of men. He finished by stating twice that the mayor shouldn’t bother to respond.

Well, the mayor (Steve Adler) felt the need to respond. Not only that but Austin’s mayor decided to lay the sarcasm on thick. Internet trolls should be taking notes, as Adler is clearly one of the best. His response to the man who contacted him stated that he should be very careful as it is clear that his email has been hacked! “Please remedy your account’s security right away, lest this person’s uninformed and sexist rantings give you a bad name,” the mayor stated in the beginning of his response.

The rest of his letter goes on to explain different inventions and accomplishments that women have achieved over the years. He concluded by sticking with his original concept that the original writer’s email must have been hacked and he should really get that taken care of.

It’s clear that the theater’s female-only showing of Wonder Woman has the full backing of the city behind it.
