RiME Goes DRM-free After Denuvo Issues

RiME Goes DRM-free After Denuvo Issues

RiME has been the subject of the drama of the week, this time centered around the popular Denuvo DRM service. Piracy on PC games is about as inevitable as it gets, but Denuvo has generally been able to delay the process by at least several months. RiME , a relatively high-profile indie release, not only was subject to a new land-speed record for Denuvo cracking (roughly five days), but in the process, crackers discovered a slew of performance issues that were solved by removing the DRM.

After all this came to pass , Tequila Works, the developers of RiME confirmed that, in the latest update, Denuvo has been removed from the game in its entirety. This issue has brought to light more issues with these aggressive DRM services, namely that the legitimacy checks can in fact affect a game’s performance.

In a statement, Tequila Works said that it has tested the crack and verified its legitimacy, and is delivering on a “promise” it made earlier in the week to remove the DRM. The developer expressed  that RiME will continue to be supported, and various other bugs and fixes were coming down the line.
