Bubsy Is Back with a New Game

Bubsy Is Back with a New Game

As if the older Bubsy games getting Steam releases wasn’t weird enough, 2017 is bringing us a brand new Bubsy sequel. In our post-irony age of Shaq Fu sequels and failed Boogerman Kickstarters, anything can happen. With Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back , memes and dreams can come to reality.

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is a totally new, old-school platforming game that sure does look like Bubsy in 2.5D. It’s the first new Bubsy outing since 1996, which means whatever you would like to take out of it, dear readers.

With Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back also comes the resurgence of Accolade as a brand name, which has been just as dormant. Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is being built on the Havok engine, which is from Black Forest, the dev team behind Giana Sisters: Twisted Dream .

This raises a few questions, at the very least. At one point does a game release cross the line from nostalgic appeal to ironic whimsy? Is a new Bubsy game in 2017 something that truly has a chance at success? Or are memes a horrible barometer for tangible, useful metrics? Will Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back come out before Shaq Fu: Legend Reborn ? Will the rights holders of Boogerman come back for round 2? I’m mostly just confused at this point.
