E3 2017: Shadow of War Does Not Allow Missions to be Replayed

E3 2017: Shadow of War Does Not Allow Missions to be Replayed

Be sure to check out our E3 hub for 2017 all week long to get the latest gaming news, previews and announcements right from the convention floor!

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War has suffered from skepticism after the first entry in the series, Shadow of Mordor . The first game was incredibly repetitive, and while its introduced Nemesis system was cool on paper, it fell flat in practice. Warner Bros. and Monolith have promised that the second entry in the series, Shadow of War , will have a much improved Nemesis system. They started showing it off at E3 2017 this past week and many are walking away impressed. But there’s something else intriguing about the game.

There’s one small detail to Shadow of War that’s very different from the first that could have some serious impacts on the gameplay. That is the fact that you cannot replay failed missions. This was revealed during a video presentation between Monolith’s Michael de Plater and voice actor Troy Baker. During some showing of gameplay, Plater failed a boss battle against Gubu Skull Crusher. It was then that he mentioned that he wouldn’t be able to try that mission over again. Time will move on, things will be altered, and there’s no way to go back and change the outcome of that battle.

There’s no way to tell what sort of butterfly effect this change will have on the rest of Middle-Earth: Shadow of War , but we’re excited to see! At the very least, the difficulty level has been raised and you have to think things through much more crucially than before. So play with caution!
