Nintendo Switch Firmware Update Brings New Features

Nintendo Switch Firmware Update Brings New Features

While most of us are used to just seeing things like “stability” improvements listed in the patch notes for System Updates, the latest version of the Nintendo Switch firmware (3.0.0) comes with a nice, big list of new features. The list mostly comprises little quality of life improvements, including the ability to import friend lists and additional volume settings.

Some of the changes are system-side, some of them have to do with controllers and others address technical issues. One that stands out to me particularly, aside from new controller firmware updates, is a “Find Controllers” feature. Can’t find your pro controller? Did you r cat bat your left Joy-Con under the couch? Now you can use the Switch to ping any paired controller via the HD rumble.

System display colors can now be set to inverted or grayscale, to help colorblind users. You can import your friends from your 3DS or Wii U lists. Additional notification settings are also added, including subscribing to game-specific news feeds and friend list online status.

Finally, Nintendo has also fixed a bug that was causing game updates to fail, and other issue that was causing the automatic HDMI-swapping function on some TVs to go haywire while the Switch was docked and in Sleep Mode. Lots of neat and useful stuff!
