Original DOOM II Floppy Disks Up for Auction

Original DOOM II Floppy Disks Up for Auction

DOOM is going to be getting a second lease on life in the future, as Bethesda works to release DOOM in virtual reality. If you’ll kindly remember, the full title of the game will be DOOM VFR (which I still think is awesome). But for fans of the series, it’s time to take a look into the past.

DOOM II was originally released in 1994 on five floppy disks. The original creator of the game, John Romero, is selling off his original disks on eBay. He’s offered to sign them as well, if the buyer would like.

Seeing as how these disks are 23-years-old, it should come as no surprise that the glue on the original labels is coming off through. However, floppy disks are practically invincible, so it’s safe to say that the disks themselves have no defects. There’s no original box for collectors’ like myself who love to have complete sets, but the offer to have your disks signed by the original creator pretty much makes up for that.

When Romero first listed the five Doom II floppy disks, the starting bid was only $10. Not surprisingly, it’s reached $676 at the time of this writing. The auction will conclude tomorrow, so if you’re interested in bidding, the time is now!
