G2A Attempting to Redeem Its Name

G2A Attempting to Redeem Its Name

G2A is a company that carries with it a lot of negative connotations. People know it for reselling keys and doing so in rather… shady ways. There are instances where keys are acquired via means where developers and publishers don’t get paid or the codes themselves are even fake, leading to people spending good money on things that don’t work. But beginning July 1, 2017, the distributor is starting a new initiative to offer more transparency and (hopefully) honesty!

There will be new rules going into effect for sellers on G2A. There will be no more anonymity. When a person goes there to sell a key for a game, they will have to provide their name and address. G2A will then check to make sure people are offering their actual information with automatic geolocation.

This applies to buyers too. Anyone who buys a key will have their location determined. This is because value-added tax (VAT) will be applied to all items on G2A from here on out.

We’ll have to wait and see if this move makes any difference. It already caused quite a bit of ill will with its dealings with Gearbox, TinyBuild, MangaGamer, and a number of other companies.
