Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel Cancelled

Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel Cancelled

Scott Cawthon, creator of the viral horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s , made a blog post on the Steam community for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Sister Location with a sad announcement for fans of the franchise. Cawthon revealed he was working on a new game, calling it “ FNAF 6 if you’d like,” but in the same post, said that he has opted to cease work on the project.

Cawthon said he’s been feeling the burn from mounting expectations as each new game in the series comes out and the rabid fanbase demands more and more. It’s a natural expectation from sequels, he says, but it has become too much. He was worried about feeling forced to work on new games and neglecting other aspects of his life for them.

Cawthon is not going to release any information on what he was working on and is considering the project cancelled. Even if he comes back to the idea of a Five Nights at Freddy’s 6 in the future, it will likely be something different. There’s no sense in getting anyone’s hopes up with something that likely won’t ever exist. He also speaks to the future of the series in general, as well as his career as a developer. Neither is done, as other projects are in the works (including a movie).
