Star Wars: Jedi Challenges Announced

Virtual reality is a booming technology field at the moment. Big companies are scrambling to get their fingers in the cookie jar, and it’s given us a wealth of new products to keep an eye on. As it would seem, virtual reality’s sibling, augmented reality, is also getting more and more interest. Apple recently announced their ARKit for their devices. And now, Disney seems to have entered the fray.

During their D23 Expo, they revealed that they are working on an augmented reality headset with Lenovo. They’re designing the headset specifically to use with Star Wars . The first game on the headset is being called Star Wars: Jedi Challenges . Essentially, it’s going to be a collection of mini-games including holochess and something that lets you use a lightsaber. The latter fact was revealed in Disney’s trailer for the game as the woman in the commercial lifts a lightsaber hilt.

We have absolutely no idea when Disney’s AR headset will launch, or where they are in its production. But there is a live website for Star Wars: Jedi Challenges already. You can keep an eye on the development of the project from there. It is an interesting move on Disney’s part to choose augmented reality over virtual reality. We’ll have to see how this all shakes down in the future.
