ARK: Survival Evolved Will Not Wipe Servers After All

ARK: Survival Evolved Will Not Wipe Servers After All

ARK: Survival Evolved has had some of the best success an early access title has ever seen. Some people hearing about the game on the fringes might not have even realized it was still an early access title. This is true though, and ARK: Survival Evolved will be officially releasing on August 8. There was one subject within the ARK community that had some very intensely heated debate lately: server wipes.

ARK developers Studio Wildcard said that they would be wiping PvP servers at game launch. The main reasoning for this was to combat “duping,” which is a way for players to duplicate items using in-game exploits. Wildcard has done a complete 180 degree turn in favor of not wiping servers, however. The decision seemed to have come out of nowhere, which has certainly confused fans. Wildcard apologized for this, but re-iterated that they will not be doing PvP server wipes. Instead, they will be introducing a new PvP server cluster network on the game’s official release date.

Supposedly there will be new server codes and infrastructure that will prevent cheating within the game, but only time will tell on that. Wildcard also plans to “re-purpose” empty or almost empty servers in the future, but they plan to give a one month warning before they do so. How do you feel about this sudden change?
