Sega Ends Sonic’s Relationship with Archie Comics

Sega Ends Sonic’s Relationship with Archie Comics

For those who might have been unaware, Sonic the Hedgehog has been a popular comic book series since 1993. I actually had no idea it was even a thing, until I happened upon an issue of the series last year at San Diego Comic-Con. My mind was blown to say the least. As it turns out, almost 300 issues of the Sonic the Hedgehog comics have been published since it started releasing 24 years ago. They’ve been with Archie Comics for a while, but that is about to change.

Sega made an announcement regarding the series on their Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account yesterday recounting the history of the comic. Times with Archie Comics as publisher has come to an end. Sega thanked Archie Comics for all the memories and bid them adieu.

Sega also wanted to make sure we didn’t all panic. This isn’t the apocalypse; it’s not the end times. We can continue to live on without the Archie Comics version of Sonic the Hedgehog . Sonic will live on again in the world of comic books. Sega had no conclusively details to share at this time, but rest assured, Sonic the Hedgehog comics will return. There will be a brand new direction for the series, and it should be equally great.
