Trademark May Mean an Nintendo 64 Classic Edition Could Appear

The Super NES Classic Edition release still has people’s heads reeling. The excitement is real, as people can’t wait to check out the console with its 21 games when it releases on September 29. There’s even the unreleased Star Fox 2 to look forward to! It stands to reason that the reaction to this retro console will dictate whether or not Nintendo does the same with any of their other old consoles. It would seem that they might not be waiting though, what with a new trademark.

On July 18, a bunch of applications were filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office by Nintendo that seem to suggest more re-released, plug-and-play consoles. The trademark applications were revealed via a thread on NeoGAF and include drawings of multiple different Nintendo controllers. These include controllers from the NES, SNES, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo 64. While all of these drawings have relevant interest attached to them, it’s the Nintendo 64 that has fans most excited.

Could it be that a Nintendo 64 Classic Edition will be headed our way in the future? Personally, I think it will depend on how well the Super NES Classic sells, but I don’t think that will be a problem. There’s also the fact that Nintendo is doing better than they have in a while, thanks to the Switch’s success. A Nintendo 64 Classic Edition would be an excellent choice, since it was integral to many childhoods. If it happens, it better come loaded with Pokemon Snap !
